Is it really free?
Yes. The full app, every feature, no account, no time limit. The build you download is yours forever. Cherry Tree is funded by optional licences, not by crippling the free version.
Can I use the free version at work?
Yes, commercially too. No strings.
What do I get if I buy a licence?
Updates, mainly. In-app auto-updates keep you on the newest build (every update is signed and verified before it installs), during the beta and after 1.0. You also get a supporter role on Discord and priority support. The app is otherwise identical: a licence unlocks updates, not features.
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay once. When your update years run out, the app and every build you received keep working. Buy again only if you want newer versions.
How does activation work? How many devices?
No account. Paste your key into Settings and that install is activated. An individual licence covers up to 5 of your devices at once, a business licence one device per seat. Deactivate a device in the app or from the customer portal and the slot frees up.
Individual or business? Which do I need?
An individual licence belongs to one named person: buy it for yourself (you can use it at work). A business licence is bought by a company for a number of seats, comes with invoicing, and the seats are reassignable. At 10+ seats the per-seat price drops.
Can I buy later, or upgrade the free app?
Anytime. Paste a key into the free app you already have and it becomes the licensed version, no reinstall. Buying now is cheaper and includes 2 years of updates instead of 1.
What happens at 1.0?
The early-bird discount ends and the price goes up. Licensed users keep getting new builds. The free version stops receiving new features, but it keeps working forever, and important fixes may still reach it.
